    Position Overview

    The Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for providing primary support for the IS Help Desk. The Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for providing a variety of configuring, installing, and supporting end-user computing solutions (i.e. hardware, software, printers, computer carts, phones, and other approved end-user hardware peripherals).

    Responsibilities

    • Conducts initial research on end-user problems regarding hardware and software by identifying and evaluating the problem, troubleshooting, facilitating suitable solutions, documenting the resolution, notifying the end user, and closing out the helpdesk ticket
    • Answers or responds to questions received from end users regarding the status of open help desk tickets in a timely, helpful manner
    • Identifies, assigns and/or escalates Help Desk issues to appropriate IS resource and/or vendor in order to ensure timely resolution of help desk tickets
    • Completes own individual tickets in a timely and complete manner and updating the Help Desk software resolutions database as appropriate
    • Alerts DSS Manager or other appropriate IS staff/managers to patterns and global problems that are reported through the Help Desk
    • Uses the IS on-call process appropriately
    • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date Help Desk software database (i.e. update customer listing, problem resolution, timely help desk ticket closure) in order to provide optimal customer service and support to the user community
    • Maintains confidentiality of client and departmental information

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Two years of experience in a Desktop Support role 
    • Must possess a solid knowledge of the Windows desktop operating system environment (Windows 2003 through 7), IP addressing, TCPIP, and a general knowledge of networking and client server basics
    • Knowledge and expertise with telecommunication support, PBX infrastructure (moves, adds, changes, etc.) and voice/phone system
    • Associate degree in a computer related field
    • Experience imaging and upgrading PC's and workstations 

    Preferred Experience

    • A+ Certification as a Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician preferred
